Passenger Lists of Ships leaving ScotlandThere was never a central emigration register kept in Scotland of the many Scots who left for North America and Australasia. Instead the ship's manifest, which listed all passengers, travelled with the ship and was lodged at the overseas port of entry. Some of these manifests were subsequently handed in to archives or libraries, while others were simply lost. There has been a considerable worldwide effort in recent years to put on the web the details of these ships and their surviving passenger lists .
Below is listed some of the principal internet sources for searching for
Scottish emigrants, and also a year-on-year compilation of ships known to
have left a Scottish port, or holding Scottish passengers, from 1680 to
1910.

This
page on Scotland's Family was very useful and I have been able to find
most of the shipping details I was looking for with the small amount of
information I had to go on.
